Greetings !!!
Up for auction is this rooted cutting of Harry’s Crete. A really nice and rare large green fig with a delicious rich berry flavored interior. The story on this one is that a former elder in the church brought it from Crete with him when they moved here years ago. The huge mother tree is wrapped up and buried during the winter. He shared cuttings locally with a select few and then in turn shared with me. It is an unknown variety as are many figs brought over from the home country of immigrants. It has a strong berry flavor, light seed crunch, thin skin, and is medium to large in size. It has a very intense flavor with a hint of lemon acid. It has that jammy syrup like texture that is sure to please.
My name is Dan Foster. I’ve been growing figs for about 8 years now and it’s become a passion of mine that I hope you’ll find to be as rewarding as I have. My goal when I began this obsession was to grow and taste as many varieties as I can to find the best tasting figs for my area. This is still true today.
I’m in Zone 6B and I don’t try to grow them in the ground. All my varieties are grown in large upright containers on drip irrigation. All the fruit pictures that I use are my own. My pictures aren’t altered in any way that changes the look of the fruit to make it seem more appealing. I use my Iphone 8 usually on the day that I ripen the first fig for that variety for each season. You can also find me on Facebook and Ourfigs fig forum.
All of my figs should be assumed to have been exposed in some way to FMV Fig Mosaic Virus. This is common in the growing of common figs. When young, figs will often show more severe symptoms, but most of the time many of them grow out of this as long as good growing and fertilizing practices are in place.
You will receive the exact plant that is photographed. They are grown in a TP38 Stuewe & Sons Tree-pot along with a professional growing mix. They should have a very nice root system and should rebound from transplanting easily.
Once transplanted, I think it’s always a good idea to place the newly planted tree in a shadier location for a week just to make sure it can recover adequately to its new environment. This is especially true when replanting in a southern location or when the temperatures are above 80.
My growing operation has been inspected by the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and I’m licensed to ship to all 50 States. Included with this inspection is a Certificate of Quarantine Compliance in accordance with the U.S. Domestic Japanese Beetle Harmonization Plan. I will only ship inside the continental U.S. Send me a message if you have any questions. I will combine shipping if multiple auctions are won in the same week. I usually use a 20x4x4 box and can combine shipping as follows up to 4 figs. I use USPS Priority shipping. I try to ship out Monday morning, although sometimes I have to wait until Tuesday. I don’t usually see messages from PayPal or eBay after auctions are won asking me to wait to ship. The faster your invoice is paid, the faster I can get your plants out. Combined shipping is available with multiple auctions being won through FigBid within the same day.
