Thermalito

The Thermalito fig is a wild California seedling known for its delicious parthenocarpic figs, which can produce fruit without the need for pollination by the fig wasp, though it is said to be even better when pollinated. These figs are described as being similar to the best of the Adriatic figs, boasting an intense berry flavor, deep red flesh, and a yellow-green skin that develops sugar spots. The Thermalito fig tree is praised for its early ripening fruit, which is particularly advantageous for growers in northern climates, and it is resistant to splitting in heavy rains and souring in extreme heat. It originates from a unique horticultural setting in California, discovered on a property once teeming with various figs, olive trees, and grapevines, created in the 1800s by Americo Ghianda. This variety is valued for its ease of rooting and vigorous tree growth, which makes it ideal for anyone looking for a fast growing Root stock variety to graft.
