Yellow Sticky Traps are the first step for any Integrated Pest Management plan. The original Seabright Sticky Traps with color attractants are an economic and highly effective monitoring and mass-trapping method for a broad spectrum of flying and hopping insects. Seabright traps use Stikem Special, a non-poisonous and non-toxic, odorless adhesive that is very effective. Stikem is used on millions of traps worldwide by private growers, government agriculture offices, entomologists, and is endorsed and used by the USDA and California Department of Food & Agriculture. Use Seabright Yellow Sticky Traps indoors or in any greenhouse, flower or vegetable garden, or orchard. Great for controlling or monitoring fungus gnats and fruit flies, whitefly, aphids, thrips, leaf & froghoppers, leafminers, shore flies, ants, beetles & weevils, caterpillars, earwigs, and moths.
Let's face it, we're all fig nuts. We collect dozens of varieties of fig trees because we love it. We love having the best, most rare, newest, biggest, sweetest... you know what I'm talking about. And what's more fun than collecting fig trees? GROWING! All of us love growing those fig cuttings into little trees. Horticulturally, there are few things that are more satisfying. Because pruning takes place from late November through January, most of the time we're rooting fig cuttings indoors during the coldest months. For the home grower, it's not the easiest proposition but doable. We take the problems as they come and the problems come at every stage from the second you push that fig cutting into a growing mix until you move a young fig tree outside. Some collectors will only root a few and others will have a dozen at minimum. But most will have 50 to 100 or more! As I write this there are 150+ little fig trees right next to me!
Other than watering, the biggest issue for rooting and growing indoors is fungus gnats. Those little buggers! Fungus gnats are those spindly-looking flies, about 1/8 of an inch long, with long legs and long, thin antennae. They resemble tiny mosquitoes more than they do common flies. These tiny, black insects seem innocent enough as they hop all over your plants. The adults rarely cause any problems (except for flying directly into your face... they're attracted to the carbon dioxide we exhale) but the young larvae will feed on the fine root hairs of your plants, causing them to lose vigor and develop yellow leaves. The larvae can also tunnel into the base of cuttings or plant stems, which can be devastating. A sensible and attentive watering schedule along with the proper growing medium will keep most fungus gnats at bay. But there's no getting around it. If you're growing indoors, you're going to have to deal with fungus gnats. You should have a program in place before the problems start. My fungus gnat program always starts with Yellow Sticky Traps from Seabright Labs.
I've dealt with home-growing fig trees and fungus gnats for years and found the most valuable first line of defense is Yellow Sticky Traps from Seabright Labs. Simply hang a few just above the canopy of your young fig trees and watch the magic happen. I also employ a two-pronged control by placing a few cards on or just above the soil-line as well. Fungus gnats are instantly attracted to the yellow cards. Once they land there's no turning back. I've used lesser cards before but there is no substitute for Seabright Labs Yellow Sticky Traps. Besides their proprietary Stikem Special adhesive, I think the application process of their glue sets them apart. When opening your first card you'll see what I mean. There is just a ton of special adhesive on the card. And when it's separated, the pulling effect on the adhesive creates an uneven surface of little ridges, hills, and valleys thereby giving you lots more adhesive-trapping area. Lesser traps with thinned-out and rolled-on, inferior glue just can't match up and the difference is immediately apparent in the number of adult fungus gnats captured on Seabright Yellow Sticky Traps. I wouldn't use any other.
About price-shopping for Yellow Sticky Traps
These are not cheap, imported glue traps that work poorly or not at all. These are the highest quality Yellow Sticky Traps available today. There's no need to price-shop for Original Seabright Labs Yellow Stick Traps because I've done all the hard work for you. It blows my mind that the same scamBay seller will happily sell one customer 5 traps for $12, then sell to another customer for $7. Obviously, this isn't fair and there's a serious disconnect between the seller and customer. Additionally, I have to ask; if a scamBay seller is willing to beat you for 4 bucks, how could you trust them for anything?? That aside, the real loss is time. Who the heck wants to take the time to price-shop yellow sticky traps?? I've already done the price-shopping for you. When it comes to this item, the savings is in the shipping ;)
