Description

Welcome! You are bidding on 2 cuttings of Bonavita that will be cut fresh the day of shipment. They will have a minimum of 3 nodes and are well lignified.

Bonavita is a purple, medium to large sized common fig brought over from Southern Italy by immigrants before 1960, where the tree was present in the Bensonhurst neighborhood of Brooklyn, NY (Zone 7). It has survived unprotected for 60+ years, enduring sub-zero weather with occasional dieback, though in periods of warmer winters, has developed into a tree form with a trunk >10 inches in diameter. Very cold hardy, prolific and vigorous. It has the ability to ripen fruit on new growth after dieback here in Zone 7 with weeks to spare before getting frost. It bears two crops; brebas ripening in June, main crop usually from late August until October. Red pulp interior that is exceptionally sweet, figgy flavor, melony with hints of berry. Medium cavity. Small to medium open eye. Can be prone to splitting when ripening during periods of heavy rain and high humidity.
