Description

Vanilla Bean Orchid Live Plant, 12 Inches Fresh Cutting (3 leaf minimum)

Cultivar:

Vanilla planifolia

Info:

This is the same plant that grows vanilla beans that are used for cooking, baking, desserts, ice cream and making of vanilla extract.  This plant produces excellent vanilla and is a vanilla planifolia species orchid, unlike other orchid types this is a climbing vine.  We acquired it from a greenhouse botanist in Santa Cruz, CA.  Although these orchards are tropical they are very hardy and beautiful house plants and can be easily gown inside in a nice sunny window.  If you give it the right conditions (tropics or warm greenhouse) you can make your own vanilla beans!  We have been growing this orchid in various locations around California (always indoors or in a heated greenhouse) with great success for over 15 years.  Cuttings are taken fresh from one of our live plants.

Special Note:

*** SPECIAL NOTE: These are cold-sensitive so keep them warm ***

We have rooted these cuttings many times over the years by laying them down in potting soil and sticking the end in the soil.  Keep them moist and they will grow roots.  We grow ours in our house in the cool Northern, CA coastal area.
