Yellow Devil's Tongue Pepper:

Aptly named for its misshaped version of the devil’s tongue, mean appearance, and searing heat, Yellow Devil's Tongue claims a title for the 7th hottest pepper in the world.  And this little yellow pepper sure packs a wicked punch!  This yellow beauty was discovered growing among habaneros by an Amish farmer in Pennsylvania, so it's definitely a great northeast variety.  Yellow Devil's Tongue is the perfect pepper to round out your collection of super-hots.  

Annual.  90 days to maturity.  Open-pollinated.  Yellow Devil's Tongue is the smaller version of a Fatalii pepper with smoother skin.  Peppers mature from light green to green to bright yellow and grow up to 3" long.  The heavy bearing, bushy plants reach 4 feet in height and will make a striking statement in any garden.  Yellow Devil's Tongue has a fruity, citrus flavor and is sweeter than most other super-hots.  Mature peppers clock in with an insane amount of heat measuring between 125,000 to 325,000 Scoville Heat Units on the Scoville Scale.  So this baby is reserved only for those who crave the heat.  Yellow Devil's Tongue is perfect for sauces and salsa but can also be dehydrated and ground into a hot pepper powder or flakes.

Please be careful when handling any part of the Yellow Devil's Tongue pepper, including the seeds, as the oils can cause a burning sensation to your skin.  It's best to wear disposable gloves and be sure not to touch anywhere near your eyes or other sensitive areas without first washing your hands.    

Sow indoors 1/4” deep, 2” apart, 8-10 weeks before last frost date.  Keep near 80º.  Transplant to fertile soil 2-4 weeks after the last frost, 2’ apart, in rows 2-3’ apart.
