Description

'Byantes' is a female clone of seaberry which was selected for its sweeter than average (for the species) fruit. In order to get fruit female seaberries need to be planted very near to a male seaberry.

Seaberries are sun loving shrubs or small trees which typically begin life with a single trunk, but over time send up root suckers to form clonal colonies. These suckers tend to come up a few feet from the original trunk so if you have multiple varieties planted in close proximity it will be hard to determine which variety the suckers belong to. This is important to understand for proper planning and management of your planting. Additionally, they do not tolerate shade so should be grown in full sun.

Note: I strongly recommend potting up your bare root seaberry plants upon arrival and wait until growth begins in spring to plant them in ground.  In my experience they are very susceptible to being girdled by small animals over winter so it is best to give the roots a full growing season to establish before they endure a winter in ground.  If your seaberry plants do become girdled the best chance for survival will be to cut the top and plant it.  This way the roots will be stimulated to sucker below the girdled trunk and as a back up plan the cut off top may also be able to form roots if conditions are favorable.

Seaberries are deciduous and will be shipped while dormant which means they will be without leaves.

These plants were grown outdoors un USDA climate zone 8a.

To keep shipping price low and to ensure maximum phytosanitary security, this plant will be shipped bare root with all soil removed and roots wrapped to keep them moist.

Shipping options:
USPS Priority Mail - plant will be sent bare root with no soil or pot (automatically insured via USPS up to $100 value)
