Description

Roberts "Golden Rainbow" fig trees produce large, sweet, full of flavor, juicy golden figs. The Golden Rainbow trees are medium size trees in the ground (15' wide X 20' tall).

This listing is for the 2 fresh cuttings in the main listing photo. These cuttings were taken today from a first generation Golden Rainbow fig tree. Nice cuttings with healthy green tips.

It seems that I have always been around figs. My grandfather had two mission fig trees in his backyard in New Jersey. I remember watching him trimming the tree and wrapping it in tar paper for the winter. My parents owned the corner grocery store across the street from my elementary school and where we sold delicious dried figs that were on a string. My mother made delicious fig cookies for the holidays and I could easily eat one whole side of a package of fig newtons.

I am happy to offer these fig cuttings for sale. This variety of fig trees grows very well in my moderate weather area along the California coast and in much hotter areas. When I had my five acre property I had some gorgeous mission fig trees that would fruit some years and not others. It seems that a cool spring affected the fruit production. The Golden Rainbows variety is a consistent producer of delish figs year after year.

History; This variety has a mystery origin. The original mother tree was given to me in 2003 by a nephew who was a member of the California Rare Fruit Growers Association and lived in Rainbow California. I have probably propagated 500 wonderful baby trees from the multi trunked mother tree and her offsprings. My nephew called the variety a Golden Fig. When I tried to find it's true origin the closest match I found (leaf shape, fruit size, fruit color exterior and interior) was an eBay advertisement for a Golden Riverside fig tree from the University California Riverside. Unfortunately that has proven not to be accurate. So without knowing the true variety I came up with the name of Golden Rainbow which represents where my nephew lived at the time he gave me the tree, as well as the many colors of the fig itself, as well as the rainbow of flavors the figs give you taste wise. The figs will start out deep green, then turning a golden yellow and eventually the later harvests turn a light purple color. The interior color is a rich honey amber color. The cuttings I am selling are from 2nd generation trees which are four years old.

Flavor; As I became more and more of lover of wine, I realized that peoples taste palettes vary quite a bit. My favorite wines have always been the blended wines like a GSM or a meritage. The Golden Rainbow produces figs which are fruit forward like California wines with a blend of fruit flavors, medium body fig flavor, with strawberry, kiwi, etc.

Fruit Size; The Golden Rainbow produces large fruit. Especially the first harvest of figs which can be big and full of flavor. I have also included photos of figs which were harvested late in the season(January) which seem to run a bit smaller yet offer the same flavor.

Crop Production; The Golden Rainbow produce abundant fruit. The mother tree was always trimmed for cuttings (12'wide X 15' tall) yet it still produced 150-250 figs per season. Please note that if planted in a pot or half barrel the fruit size will be smaller as well as your harvest.

Harvest Season; Depending on your climate the Golden Rainbow figs produce from September through December. Please note that a few years back two fig master brothers from Seattle purchased a few trees from me as Golden Riverside fig trees. I apologize for my varietal name error. The truth is that no matter what the variety is called it is a wonderful variety and if you give it the love it deserves it will reward you with incredibly wonderful tasting fruit.

Please let me know if you have any questions about the Golden Rainbow figs.  No international shipping.  Shipping to US addresses only.  Thank you.

Enjoy, Robert
