Description

This listing is for 1g of Grandpa Ott's Ipomoea Morning Glory seeds.  100% natural, non-genetically modified seed.  These are our extra FEDCO seeds from this season.  We buy in small bulk lots, use what's needed for family, friends, and small co-ops, then sell the remainder at a substantial discount for other growers.  All seed lots have been tested for viability.  This variety has been trialed from several sources to ensure the selection of the best strain.  100% success in the northeast.  All extra seeds are professionally packaged and labeled.  Free USPS First Class shipping to the lower 48.

70 days to maturity.  This variety could be considered the seed that sprouted a thousand seed savers.  When Diane Ott Whealy’s grandfather gave her seeds of this stunning Bavarian heirloom and died shortly thereafter, she felt responsible for keeping the variety going.  With her then-husband Kent Whealy, she cofounded Seed Savers Exchange, which has since grown to a collection of more than 20,000 varieties.  This foundational flower deserves to be saved: beautiful glowing rich deep purple bloom with a glowing magenta center and dark red 5-pointed star pattern.  Quite the showstopper.  Very similar to Kniola’s Purple, though with a later initial bloom time.  Climbs to at least 8–9' with trellising, and will self-sow but not aggressively.

There's a spot on the farm we want to trellis and add some color.  What better choice than morning-glory.  We love heirloom quality varieties of anything, and the stories attached to them.  We have our own heirloom fig tree from Great Grandpa Pietro and wouldn't trade it for any variety.  So the heirloom quality of Grandpa Ott's was a no-brainer.  Beauty plus a good story?  We're in!  We've already started our seeds and they're taking off faster than expected.  At the first break in the weather we'll put them out.  Can't wait to see that splash of color!

Please note; all parts of Ipomoea have a low toxicity if consumed, especially the seeds.  Please do not eat the seeds and keep them away from children and pets.  While not on the federal list of noxious weeds, the state of Arkansas has listed the genus as a noxious weed.  Additionally, Arizona has listed Ipomoea L. (morning-glory) as a prohibited noxious weed so there are no sales to Arizona.  Sorry about that Arizonians.

Shipping and Combined Shipping

NYCfigs ships on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.

We never 'pass the savings' of expensive shipping charges to the customer and always ship as economically as possible.  Sometimes this becomes a juggling act between cost-of-goods vs. cost-of-container vs. shipment size vs. shipping cost vs. margins.  With combined shipping, it's all in the packing and we'll always find the most inexpensive shipping method available.  But there are times when it's impossible to ship economically and we'll always let you know before paying.  The shipping for all items sold by NYCfigs will combine automatically with all other items purchased from NYCfigs.  Items that ship free can't be discounted.  In the rare instance of excess shipping charges, NYCfigs will refund after the invoice is paid.  This ensures your items are received in a timely manner.
