Figo Preto. One of the Best Purple-Black Figs. 2 Cuttings.

Figo Preto produces dark purple, uniformly shaped, medium to large figs of high quality. The unique, complex flavor has led to this fig being highly coveted. One of my personal favorites.

This Portuguese fig was discovered growing in the San Diego, CA area some years back. It was growing in the back yard of an elderly lady who had gotten it from a Portuguese relative decades earlier. I received this variety in a trade from "svanessa" (username) who originally located the tree growing in CA.

Unfortunately, that mother tree has since been cut down and removed from its original, So Cal, location. It's good to know that many fig enthusiasts have preserved this variety by growing it in their own backyards.

I first started growing my own fig trees in 2009 after tasting a fresh fig for the first time. That's all it took! I had no idea at the time that there were hundreds of other varieties of figs waiting to be discovered. Since then, I have enjoyed many other amazing fig varieties.  It's been a pleasure to see the fig people's community grow the way it has over the past 10 years!
