Description

Hello, this auction is for 3 cuttings, 6 inches or with 3 nodes.

Here's a story about this fig. I met this lady, Ziggy. She's in her 70s and she started telling me a story about her parents and how they had immigrated from Portugal back in 1958. And then in 1978 they went back to Portugal on vacation and brought back some cuttings.

They still have the 40+ year old mother tree. She called them White Madeira Bebera.

I tried the Breba figs and it was a wonderfully sweet fruit with hints of strawberry. Very soft in texture both interior and exterior, with a light seed crunch. It grows in Northern California which on average is not that hot, but definitely not cold, zone 9b. Ziggy tells me that if I think the Brebas are good, just wait until I try the main crop!

I've taken some pictures of her mother tree, leaves and have included a picture of the fruit from last year's main crop. I had observed single, tri, and 5 lobed leaves, but mostly single and tri-lobed.

Here's an excerpt from Ziggy on the fig:

"White Madeira bebera originally came from the Madeira Island of Portugal. It is a beautiful yellow/green skin. The large yellow green figs grow on trees with mainly three-lobed leaves. White Madeira bebera has longish necks and cracked skin when they are ripe. When you bite into a White Madeira bebera you will find a juicy bright red interior packed with rich berry flavor. These figs are extremely sweet, jammy like dried date fruits and with a sweet, ripened strawberry flavor. The taste and textures are extremely good. I guarantee you that it will be the best fig you have ever tasted. The mother tree is from the island of Madeira."
